Our History

Orchard Street Baptist Church was organized in 1944 when a small congregation met in a modest building on Orchard Street in the Mayo Mill village.  It consisted of a sanctuary and two rooms in the basement.  Bathroom facilities were outhouses located next to a cow pasture.  Reverend Charles Parris was the first pastor.  

The church built the present sanctuary on Double Branch Road in 1970, just a few blocks away from the original location.  As the community and church grew, a Fellowship Building was added in 1981 and an Educational Building was dedicated in 1983.  A Christian Life Center was built in 2003 featuring a gymnasium, meeting/classrooms, and a restaurant quality kitchen. In 2025, the sanctuary was completely renovated bringing state-of-the-art technology to enhance worship. 

Throughout the years, Orchard Street Baptist Church has remained rooted in its mission to make disciples for Christ and to serve the community. The congregation expresses deep gratitude for the blessings received and looks forward with faith to continued service and growth.

Orchard Street Baptist Church is aligned with the Spartanburg Baptist Network, South Carolina Baptist Convention, and the Southern Baptist Convention.  The church adheres to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
